The postcards look official. They have phone numbers and Mortgage ID#’s. But mortgage purchases are a matter of public record. Sometimes this publicly available information is used by dishonest mortgage lenders trying to capture a loan, or scammers trying to trick people into divulging personal information for fraudulent purposes.
The cards are deceptive, but not illegal. Note at the bottom of the pink postcard, in small print, it states that the information is not affiliated with nor endorsed by CEFCU. This discreet disclaimer is purposefully easy to overlook.
If you received one of these postcards, discard it. No action is necessary, and your CEFCU mortgage is not at risk.
Already responded to one of these postcards? If you gave out any of your personal or financial information — act fast. Contact your financial institution and tell them you were scammed.
